Abena Addo - McGill University, Quebec  | University of Toronto, Toronto

Abena Addo is the Founder and Director of Aspire for Higher Elite Basketball Camps. In June 2013, after receiving a grant from the Ministry of Ontario's Summer Company program for young entrepreneurs she began to put her dream summer job into action. Growing up she found that high level basketball programs were either absent or too expensive in turn compromising her confidence and desire to continue with sport. Thankfully she grew up alongside encouraging parents and two very competitive brothers who challenged her and bestowed onto her values of hard work and dedication. Her goal for Aspire for Higher Elite Basketball is to be that force pushing youth to excel and aspire to reach their highest potential.  Basketball has opened so many doors for her and she strongly believes in strengthening and providing this opportunity for the up and coming youth of the community she grew up in -the Region of Peel.  She is a former player of the McGill Women’s basketball team, provincial champion and CIS academic All Canadian.  She completed a Master of Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto, where she was team captain and recipient of the Joy Bellinger award. She is currently working in her field as an engineer .

Shaquille Keith - Windsor Express, NBL


Shaquille Keith also known as Coach K started his basketball journey at the age of 13 playing for the Mississauga Ballers. Later Coach K moved to Brampton, started highschool at Fletchers Meadow Secondary and began taking basketball seriously. He played at Fletchers for 4 years before moving to REDA Prep in Orangeville.  During his high-school career Shaquille had the opportunity to play for some major and very well-known teams including Team Ontario (winning silver at nationals) and the 2012 ALL-CANADA Classic where he received the Mr. Ontario Basketball Award. He is also a Former CIA bounce player and had the opportunity to play AAU basketball and received many offers from Div.1 schools like Wichita state, Arizona state, and Washington state. However Shaq chose to extend his basketball career at the University of Cape Breton on the East coast. After one year at Cape Breton Shaq led his team to the conference championships and was a member of the conference all Rookie team.   After 1 year at Cape Breton Shaq decided to challenge himself and transfered to Kilgore College (Juco) in Texas. Coach K is currently playing in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) for the Windsor Express. He looks forward to motivating and teaching the youth to create successful paths through basketball.

David Aromolaran – Laurentian University, Sudbury, Ontario


David is entering his fourth season as a Voyageurs an Laurentian University. David has recently been named the Laurentian Voyageurs most valuable player for the 2015 - 2016 season. David is the point guard for the Voyageurs and as floor general he does his best to lead by always push the tempo on offense, initiating the play calls as well as locking up his opponent on the defensive end of the floor. His personal interests are socializing with his peers, playing basketball against his teammates after practice, and making people laugh. Watching basketball is a true joy for David,  whether its on the pro level, collegiate level, or high school level, as long as the game is competitive he is there. David believes everyone wins when they do their best, and is a firm believer in doing your best whenever you step on the court. He has expressed his excited in giving back to the youth and shareing his experiences as an elite university athltete.  We are excited to have David on our team for the 2015 season!

Kadeem Thompson– St. Marys University, Nova Scotia 


Kadeem began his career in basketball at the age of 13 playing for the brampton blue devils.  Later he made the transition to play for CIA Bounce, and than YAAACE.  He completed his first two years of high school at Father Henry Carr where he was rewarded with MVP and all-star awards.  He then received a a scholarship to attend a prep school in Boston, MA named Boston Trinity Academy. In his two years in Boston he was named to the all-conference first team, and went on to obtain his high school diploma. After graduating he accepted a scholarship to Saint Mary's University in Nova Scotia. Kadeem will be entering his third year of studies at Saint Mary’s University in Septmeber 2015 where he will continue working towards his degree in Psychology along with continuing to represent Saint Mary’s by playing for the men’s varsity basketball team (PG). He has vast experience working in basketball camps as he has worked at several notable camps including the Saint Mary's basketball camp!  We believe Kadeem is a great addition to out team, his experiences both in Canada and the U.S allow him to share valuable knowledge and guidance to those seeking similar opportunities! 

Jordan Clennon - University of Winnipeg, Winnipeg


Jordan is the Co-Founder of A4H BAsketball. He began his career in basketball at the age of 10. From the simple love of the sport to competitive AAU and Canadian basketball leagues with CIA Bounce Basketball Club, Jordan has been able to pursue his University education through scholarships with Missouri State University-West Plains  (#1 in all of NJCAA his freshman year) and currently University of Winnipeg. Throughout his career he has experienced well deserved recognition for his hard work including several MVP and allstar awards throughout highschool (St. Edmund Campion) and most recently, University of Winnipeg Player of the Week. He looks forward to completing his studies in Kinesiology. Jordan not only has a way on the court but he has an innate ability to connect with young people. They gravitate to his playful and participatory leadership style. His skillful style facilitates a learning environment where young people develop their basketball skills and their character, while having some fun at the same time. Jordan's extraordinary commitment and dedication throughout A4H's previous summer programs has earned him a supervisor position at St. Roch S. S this summer.


Naana Ankoma-Mensah - Bryant University, Rhode Island


Naana is a Co- Founder of A4H Basketball. Naana began her basketball career at the little age of 9. She played for the Etobicoke Storm and moved to Brampton in her teens where she then joined the Sultan propects. After graduating from St. Margaret D'Youville S.S and a lot of dedication, hard work and training she accepted a 4 year scholarship to Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. As a major contributor to the program Naana was named the 3rd player in Bryant Womans basketball history to score 1000 points and grab 1000 rebounds, and notably was part of the best year in terms of having the most wins. She graduates in May with a degree in Marketing, and two minors in communiations and psychology. Naana has been a phenominal contributor to Aspire for Higher,  her exceptional patience, encouragement and effective communication with each and every athlete combined with her leadership skills has landed her the supervisor position at one of the locations this summer.

Jasmine Lewin - University of Toronto


Jasmine began her basketball career at the age of 7 with her older brother on a house league team that was run out of Brampton. The year after, she joined her very first rep team, an all boys team, the Brampton Blue Devils. After several years of playing for the Brampton Minor Basketball Association, Jasmine decided to join an AAU team called the Sultan Prospects. Jasmine attended high school at St. Edmund Campion where she earned the MVP award all 4 years she played. The Sultan's traveled extensively to the states which allowed Jasmine to receive exposure from numerous NCAA schools. As a result, Jasmine landed a full division 1 athletic scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University. Jasmine played at EKU for three years and then made the decision to transfer and play basketball at the University of Toronto. Jasmine is going into her last season with the Varsity Blues this upcoming year and will be graduating with a degree in Psychology and Biology.

Cassandra Edwards- University of Albany, New York, USA


Cassandra began her career in basketball at the age of 8 after watching her sister dominate in the sport. Her passion for the basketball quickly became competitive once she realized she had a talent and the potential to be great. She played majority of her Rep basketball career for the Brampton Warriors JUEL team, and played AAU for the 2009/2010 Ontario basketball team, one year with the Sultan Prospects and Brampton Warriors, and her final years with A-Game basketball. After graduating from Notre Dame C.S.S, with a lot of determination, hard work and relentless training Cassandra accepted a 4 year scholarship to the University at Albany, State University of New York. There she has won three American East Conference Championships and had three NCAA March Madness appearances. This year her team made it past forst round against Florida and made it to the Top 32. Upon completing her sophomore year, she received the Elite 8 Conference award for her outstanding GPA of 3.98 and an additional scholarship for her academics. At the end of her Junior year she made first team All-Academic. Throughout her career she has been recognized for her hard work and leadership by receiving several MVP and all-star awards, Provincial recognitions, and even had her jersey retired at the end of her high school career at Notre Dame. She plans to graduate in 2016 with a degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice, a Masters in Mental Health Counselling, and four championship rings.

Shay Colley - University of Pittsburgh, USA


Shay Colley began her journey at the age of six. Her  love of the game began in East Preston Nova Scotia, upon moving to Brampton at the age 9 Shay continued her career with the Brampton Warriors organization.  She played both OBA and Juel  with Brampton She won both a silver and a bronze with the Brampton Juel team.   A graduate of St. Edmund Campion, were she won five ROPSSAA championships one silver and one gold at OFSSAA, the first team in basketball to ever win a OFSSA gold medal from Peel, she was team captain two years while at St. Edmund Campion and four time team MVP.  Upon graduating from St. Edmund Campion she was awarded the designation of Ontario Scholar-graduating with over an 80% average. Shay has represented Canada for the past five years playing in over 30 games internationally, from the Cadette level to the development team level.  Shay brings to our camp her joy of teaching the game that she loves and her natural ability to connect with young people.

Jabs Newby - Saint John Mill Rats,  NBL


Jabs is a 6'2 guard and Brampton native who started playing basketball at the age of 11 years old. Growing up he was apart of the CIA Bounce program where he was able to experience high level training as a youth. He played NCAA division 1 basketball at Eastern Kentucky University and later transferred to Gannon University where he graduated with a degree in business. Earlier this year Jabs was invited to compete in the Raptors 905 training camp. Currently Jabs is a professional basketball player for the Saint John Mill Rats in the National Basketball League of Canada. We are excited to have Jabs on our team this summer to share is expertise and love for the game

Stefan Simpson- Laurentian University, Sudbury Ontario 

Coach Stefan is a Brampton native, who began basketball at the age of 12. His basketball career began with Brampton Blue Devils rep program and continued through playing at the high school level (Notre Dame C.S.S.), having received several awards. Currently, he will be entering his last year of studies at Laurentian University while playing point guard for the Voyageurs as well.

He has a passion for the game of basketball and enjoy sharing that passion through playing and teaching others the game. He has playful leadership style and love to see kids do well and succeed.

Josephine Gyamfi - University of WIndsor, Windsor, ON


Josephine Gyamfi is currently in her fourth year at the University of Windsor, completing an undergraduate degree in Developmental Psychology. She enjoys being surrounded by kids because of their unique, uplifting personalities and hopes to purse a career in the future working with children. She was a varsity student athlete throughout her four years of high school at St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School. Josephine is also a chairman of the King Fee Classic organization, which is an organization that helps to raise money for the Sick Kids Hospital and bring awareness to Mesothelioma. This is her first summer working at the Aspire for Higher basketball camps and she is very pleased with her experience thus far

Kevin Thomas - Missouri Western State University, Missouri 


Kevin started playing basketball at the age of 10 years old. After years of playing for fun with friends he eventually polished his skills and was able to play with CIA Bounce where he was given the opportunity to attend high school in the U.S. Kevin completed his highschool edcuation at St Mary Ryken high school in the Washington DC area and had a great experience attending highschool and playing basketball south of the boarder. Kevin  committed to Fairfield University (D1). Currently Kevin is studying and playing NCAA basketball at Missouri Western State University.  He is passionate about business management, and really enjoys sharing his basketball IQ and experiences with the youth of his hometown, Brampton. 


Jermel Kennedy 


Jermel 'Air Canada' Kennedy's basketball career has spanned across years and Continents. After an impressive highschool career he was able to attend Iowa Central Community College later move to Volunteer State Community College (Tennessee) and finally complete his post secondary basketball career at Lander University (S. Carolina). During his post secondary career Jermel had exceptional performances; notably leading his team to conference tournaments and setting school records. After his senior year Kennedy decided to briefly postpone his basketball career to finish his Bachelor of Science. After his year long hiatus, Jermel was drafted 6th overall in the 1st round of the 2013 NBL Canada draft. After being drafted, Jermel opted out of his NBL offer to pursue an opportunity playing in Europe for TV Langen in Germanys Pro B league. In Langen Jermel has excelled leading his team all the way to the playoffs while attaining recognition such as player of the week. Now back from Germany and training for next season Jermel has joined our staff eager to pass on his knowledge and dexterity in the sport of basketball to youth. Understanding the impact he can make with the camp, Jermel has a strong desire to contribute his expertise giving those enrolled a positive and beneficial experience, in the hopes of inspiring them to make goals and aim high, just as he did.

Sherice Henry- University of Guelph Humber, Toronto, ON


Sherice Henry is the Public Relations Coordinator; she handles the social media accounts for the camp. This is her first year working with A4H. She is a recent grad from the University of Guelph Humber with a degree in Media Communications. Aside from her love for PR she has always had a passion for basketball. She has been around basketball all her life but took her basketball career more seriously in high school when she played for St. Edmund Campion C.S.S and played rep ball for the Brampton Warriors.

Aprille Deus - Acadia University, Nova Scotia


Aprille started playing basketball in the 5th grade with the Brampton Blue Devils. Later she joined the Sultan Prospects and then the Tri-County Thunder in the JUEL league. She accepted a scholarship to Acadia University in Nova Scotia as a point guard and is currently studying Kinesiology and hopes to obtain her CSEP certifications as a certified strength and conditioning coach and exercise physiologist. Aprille was also the recipient of the Toronto Raptors Coaching Mentorship with Coach Dwayne Casey and is a basketball coach at the Toronto Raptors Basketball Academy. She also works as an instructor and site coordinator for Point Guard College and has been appointed the lead correspondent for women's basketball for North Pole Hoops. This point guard has experience with Canada Basketball and will be working towards obtaining her higher levels of NCCP certifications. After her undergraduate degree, Aprille hopes to pursue a graduate assistant job with an NCAA institution while completing a Master's Degree in Sports, Media, and Entertainment Management. She also will pursue another degree in Radio and Television Production and/or diploma's in animation and audio engineering.
